Why Straw mushrooms behave withered?

Jun 08, 2017

During the production of Straw mushroom, dead young mushrooms which result in serious damage in production are common. The followings are probable causes for:

1. Slightly-acid substrate: Straw mushrooms enjoy alkaline environment, when PH Value is less than 6, mushrooms normally fruit but are hard to grow. Acid environment is more suitable for the growth of sundry fungi such as Green Mold, Yellow Mold and results in deaths of Straw mushroom. Therefore, when preparing substrate, cultivators should lift PH value of materials properly. After picking the first batch of mushroom, be sure to spray 1% of lime water or 5% of plant ash water to keep the PH value at about 8 or so.

2. Relatively low substrate temperature and temperature shock: Straw mushrooms are sensitive to temperature. In general, when substrate temperature is below 28 degrees, the growth of Straw mushrooms gets affected or they even become dead. When temperature changes a lot such as experiencing cold wave or typhoon struck, temperature goes down sharply and causes deaths of young mushrooms.

3. Improper water usage: Straw mushrooms hold certain requirement for water temperature. In general, water temperature should be about the same as room temperature. In hot summer, spraying deep well water of 20 degrees results in the death of young mushrooms. Therefore, water-spraying should be done in the morning or evening and the appropriate water temperature is about 30 degrees. Cultivators could also spray water in accordance with the growth period of sporocarps. Besides, be sure not to spray heavy water on tiny sporocarps , and in case of dry material surface, you could spray water in aisles and ground of cultivation room so as to raise relative air humidity.
